Oracle VM VirtualBox
Created by Innotek GmbH, purchased by Sun Microsystem and now developed by Oracle Corporation. Supports guest operatung system such as Unix/Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Solaris, and OpenSolaris.
Oracle VM VirtualBox is a free and multi platform software. I used this software because this is a simple software but with huge features. We can emulate usb, graphic cards and hard disk. VirtualBox has a maximal requirement for RAM, virtualbox limited only half of your RAM capacity. If you have 2GB of RAM, virtualbox will recommend you to use only < 1GB. If we want more feature and want to do a file sharing, we need a Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Addition Tools. This tool is very helpfull when I need to sharing some folders with virtual machine.

Here is the lack of Oracle VM VirtualBox
- Bugs. Because Oracle VM VirtualBox is open source, this software is still buggy.
VMware Workstation
Developed by VMware Inc. that also produce many products of virtual machine. for desktop usage, to deploy and play a virtual machine there’s VMware workstation (Windows and Linux), VMware fusion (only for Mac OS X), to only play the virtual machine there’s VMware player. VMware workstation and Fusion has feature that more complete than virtualbox sence this product has license and a propietary of VMware Inc. One os many feature is cpu core controlling. When deploying a virtual machine, we can set how many core of our cpu that will be running on virtual machine. This feature is not present on Virtualbox. But you still consider that more complete feature of a software, that will be need more resource and sometimes, a feature will make our host operating system lag.
Microsoft Virtual PC
Developed by Microsoft and usually it’s is only for Microsoft Windows Operating System. But not like as usual, this software is free, not open source software like Oracle VM VirtualBox. Microsoft Virtual PC has small size of its installation file. It also means that Microsoft Virtual PC has a simple feature, sometimes simple means powerful. Does not need any additions tools like Oracle VM VirtualBox.
