Stability and performance equivalent to RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) is an advantage of this distro. RHEL implementations that have been recognized in an enterprise environment makes CentOS as an alternative to “free” RHEL is very interesting. This is all thanks to the CentOS team effort that re-compiling the source of a variety of programming packages and get rid of various copyright RHEL specific content of RedHat distributions.
No less interesting is the support of updates to 7 years. This means you can continually use the same system without the need to reinstall. For comparison, the Ubuntu LTS server edition alone reaches new range of support for approximately 5 years. The system administrator would be more “relieved” due to software bugs will continue to be improved during that period. A lack of CentOS is to update its slower than RHEL. This occurs because the CentOS developers need time to do recompiling of updates issued by RedHat as well as test it. So, for example the Apache server that is packaged by RedHat 5.6 takes time fixed for 3 days, maybe CentOS just released two weeks later.
Former champion DistroWatch is applying similar concepts Ubuntu (Mint), namely by polishing Debian to make it easier to use. The difference, and Mandrake-based PCLinuxOS uses KDE, while many other distros are switching to GNOME. However, in order to meet user needs, also released another version based on XFCE, LXDE and OpenBox. This unique on PCLinuxOS is a merger (the combination) and the RPM package management system apt. More precisely, the application package in PCLinuxOS uses RPM format, but the installation mechanism using APT.
Puppy gives kempada lives in our old Pentium PC. Puppy is designed so as not to require a lot of resources, both in terms of RAM, processor, or graphics card. For that, Puppy equip themselves with a variety of applications that are not greedy resource. For example, Abiword and Gnumeric as an alternative to Open Office package, as a web browser Midori, and other alternative applications.
Puppy has a mode to run entirely in RAM without having to access the hard disk. Another plus, if we want to go back as early Puppy system, we simply have to reboot puppy. This method is effective for vulnerable systems problems, such as trial beta version of the application. Burn addition to the CD, Puppy that can be written to image files to the flash disk. This alternative could further accelerate the operational Puppy. You also have the option to save changes such as desktop settings to disk so that when Puppy on the restart, re-read all the settings and conditions of the system is returned exactly when you last shutdown the computer.
