LinuxAre - Open Source Projects in 2012.
Yay! Today is the first day in 2012. And for the open source projects, movement, and developers, we are sure, they will be greater, cooler and more wow!
We just resumed open source projects in 2011 and what will open source projects be in 2012.
Open Source Projects : Apache Open Office
In 2011, Oracle gave the OpenOffice.org code base and brand to the Apache foundation. Thats why the name changed to Apache OpenOffice. LibreOffice might be focusing the majority of development now, but that could update in 2012 as more developers prefer to develop on the Apache version of the project rather than the project by The Document Foundation. The Apache licence is rather permissive, and Apache OpenOffice might see contributions from major corporations that might like the possibility chance of having proprietary versions / modules for the project.
Open Source Projects : OpenJDK
OpenJDK is an open source implementation of the Java programming language, and with Java 7, now OpenJDK is the official reference implementation of Java. Java 7 may have just released, but the current plan is to have Java 8 release in 2012, with a number of improvements and bugs fixed that were supposed to come in Java 7 now coming in Java 8.
Open Source Projects : Mozilla Firefox
Firefox has a great year ahead of it. 2012 will see release of Mozilla Firefox 10 up to 18! And some great tools in these release. Firefox 10 and 11 will spread on the collection of developer tools will be availabled by firefox 10, a style editor, inspector and more tools will be included.
Open Source Projects : Linux Mint
Linux Mint 12 has already released and shown that it’s possible to have a good compromise between the old Gnome 2 and the new Gnome 3 user experience. Now they have gone their own way with their own replacement for Gnome Shell. As Gnome 3 is become more matures more capable, it will be attractive to see the direction Mint takes. It has already attracted a large number of Ubuntu users who were unhappy with the new Ubuntu UI. We could see now that Linux Mint is over take the number 1 position in distrowatch.
