Linux kernel 3.2 has finally released after a bad moment had happened in august 2011. Linux kernel 3.2 has big improvements in every part of the kernel. Here is the short brief about the new features and improvements in linux kernel 3.2.

The most stand out feature in linux kernel 3.2 :

  • Ext4 : bigger block size now has supported!

Now a block size up to 1MB has been supported by linux kernel 3.2

  • Btrfs evolutioned greatly!
  • There is a lot of filesystems perfomance improvements
  • Process Badnwidth Controller

Now, there will be no limit of how much CPU bandwidth each process gets if a free bandwidth available is appearing.

  • Hexagon processor now has been supported!
  • Improved “perf top”
  • Cross Memory Attach
Implementation
On Ubuntu Pangplin Precise (12.04), this kernel will be set as a default kernel. What things that make this kernel set as default kernel on ubuntu 12.04 is because this kernel has an improvement  on power-saving features related to graphics drivers. It is a great improvement news for portable computing user because I stop using linux on portable because linux is greedy about the resource of power. I have tested after fully recharging my notebook battery and then I was using linux for browsing, playing music, watching videos, and for office. Linux only just need about 1.45 hour to made my notebook batery recharging, but when I was using another operating system for the same. That only just need about 2.15 hour to made my notebook battery recharging again. Again and again, the recent hardware support is still number one trouble for linux.
